A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Annually, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and cafecito as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
