Cameron Norrie achieved the biggest victory of his career by rallying from a set down to overcome top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the early stage of the prestigious indoor tournament.

Although he had before beaten Alcaraz on two separate matches, this win signifies Norrie's maiden win over a reigning world top-ranked player.

"Returning from a physical setback last year, I fell in the opening stage of qualifying rounds here. I just tried to appreciate my game in the closing months of the year. To secure a triumph like this, it's the greatest win of my career, my first win over the top player and probably the most in-form player in the tennis scene right now."

The British player, ranked 31st globally, also stopped Alcaraz's dominant run of nine straight final appearances and 17 consecutive premier event successes, which was the finest stretch of results in the Spaniard's developing career.

The top seed looked to be advancing smoothly to success early on as he eased in the opening set.
