Ex- Doctor Accused of Sexual Assault Charges Involving 38 Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors have announced that a former doctor has been charged with committing sexual assaults involving 38 individuals who were patients.
The Serious Charges
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with dozens of sexual offences – some of which involve acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.
One senior prosecutor said, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to assist a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the evidence to establish that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
Scope of the Police Inquiry
These allegations follow what police described as a “complex investigation” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and a facility in Dudley.
Spencer will appear at the local magistrates' court on January 20th.
Breakdown of Offences
Prosecutors said the 45 sexual offences comprise:
- Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
- Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
- Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
