After enduring heavy downpours that caused flooding across areas in the city, LA is now seeing unseasonably high temperatures for this time of year.
Record-Shattering Readings
During the day Friday, the thermometer soared to ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in central LA, as reported by meteorologists. This exceeds the prior high for February 27th, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was established in the previous year.
"Very warm conditions" were noted on forecast maps for the region.
Public Health Warnings
Forecasters issued a warning that Friday's heat posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their advice featured:
- Staying hydrated.
- Limiting outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Not leaving anyone unattended in a parked vehicle.
A Dramatic Reversal
This sudden spike in mercury follows closely after a powerful winter storm that battered the state earlier in the week. That storm brought thunderstorms, high winds, and heavy snow to mountainous regions, triggering evacuation orders for countless residents.

Additional areas that hit the 90-degree mark were Long Beach, Burbank, and Woodland Hills. Meanwhile, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were projected to see the upper eighties.
For the weekend, central Los Angeles can expect temperatures in the eighties, with cooler weather likely for the following week.
