Soccer Expert Sutton Battles Singer Murs in Premier League Predictions

Arsenal's 10-game winning streak was ended by Sunderland before the global break, but can the English top division leaders bounce back against local foes Spurs this Sunday?

"{I believe like Arsenal are light years ahead of Tottenham at the moment but Spurs manager Thomas Frank will have a strategy for this game," remarked soccer expert Chris Sutton.

"Frank will try to nullify Arsenal, who have not always been at their sparkling best this season - but Mikel Arteta's team typically still find a way to win."

The analyst is forecasting results for all 380 Premier League games this term, versus AI, fans and a variety of guests.

In the twelfth round, he takes on singer Olly Murs, who is a Manchester United fan.

Murs' new record, Knees Up, is out on the weekend.

Soccer and Parenting Life

Murs is a talented soccer player as well as a successful singer and has been a featured player of multiple Soccer Aid games over time - but he is not planning a serious comeback as a footballer.

"{I actually played in a charity game the other evening for a mate of mine," he said. "My team was losing 3-1 when I was substituted in the second half, and they went on to win 4-3, so you can interpret that what you want!

"I continue to love football, but I injured my joint a few years ago and it still hasn't fully recovered. I hope I could play more but the uncertainty of the game means it's too risky for me in my profession to do it seriously again.

"Plus I am 41 now, and we are not everyone is Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very content not playing football and I am preparing for the time that my child or boy decides to play instead."

The singer and his spouse Amelia Tank have a young family, Madison and their son, and he is ready to emulate his dad by becoming their coach.

"I won't force football on our kids but I've already told Amelia that if they do get the passion for it then I will have to go and get my coaching badges - and I will likely be managing their Saturday soccer team," he added.

"I observed my relatives play a lot, and I really got into it, and I clearly was involved with a football club for a while too.

"My dad did it with us when I was a child, which is probably where I get it from. He coached our team for two or three years and had great fun with it. That could be the future for me as well, and I am excited to it!"

Top Division Predictions

Saturday, 22 November

  • Turf Moor, 12:30 GMT

Chelsea may have to wait a bit longer for their star's return from injury but their offense is now stronger with Joao Pedro and Liam Delap both back fit.

I still think this fixture will be quite close, however. The Clarets are disciplined and their only home losses so far have been against Liverpool and the Gunners.

This smells of a 1-1 draw to me, but I am actually going to go with the London side to edge it for what would be their third league win in a row.

Sutton's prediction: 1-2

Olly's prediction: Chelsea will be too strong. 1-3

AI's outlook: 0-2

  • Vitality Stadium, 15:00 GMT

The Cherries have been defeated in their past two matches - although both of them were away - but they got thoroughly beaten by Villa last time out which surprised me.

On the other hand, the Hammers won two in a row before the international break and, although both of those fixtures were at their stadium, they appear competitive again.

The Hammers' sole on the road win this campaign came at Forest in August, when their manager Nuno Espirito Santo was still Forest coach.

So, what on earth do I predict here - will it be the Hammers continuing their run under Nuno, or the home side bouncing back?

I am going to go with Bournemouth, because I believe what happened against Villa was a blip.

The pundit's forecast: 2-0

The guest's outlook: The home team are doing well but West Ham have improved under Nuno. 2-2

AI's prediction: 1-1

  • Amex Stadium, 15:00 GMT

Brentford were seen as one of the favourites for relegation before the season began, but they have surprised a several people under Keith Andrews and are in fine fettle with three in their past four matches.

My son advised me to get Brentford striker Igor Thiago in my Fantasy Football squad a few weeks ago and, guess what, I ignored the advice.

The forward will likely score again on Saturday but I am still not going to pick him or support the away side at Amex Stadium.

They have not had great fortune on the travel this season, and Brighton are consistently strong at their stadium. Brentford will try to hit them on the counter-attack but I feel the home manager's team carry much more of a threat.

Sutton's prediction: 2-1

Olly's view: It could be one of those games where you expect there is going to be a lot of scores but it actually turns out to be rather close. 1-1

The computer's prediction: 2-1

  • Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT

It is a huge game for the Cottagers, who have lost five of their past six games.

They have have lots of talent in their squad but it nonetheless seems like they could be dragged into a drop zone battle.

As for the Black Cats, well they are the unexpected success of the Premier League campaign so far.

Their performance in the two-all tie with the Gunners last time out was excellent. We have not witnessed anyone else disrupt the Gunners like that this term, and Sunderland were fully competitive for them.

The logical choice would be to back the visitors here, because they are obviously capable of disrupting the hosts up too and, the last time they were in this part of London, they beat the Blues at the close of last month.

But I am not going to do that. Rather, I really need to continue opposing the away team with my predictions. I am taking a lot of credit for their good results because they clearly love to defy my predictions.

Looking at Fulham's home record, the only side they have lost to is the league leaders. Marco Silva's side will be extremely desperate for a good result, so I am going to predict they will secure three points.

Sutton's prediction: 1-0

The guest's prediction: I know Sunderland are doing well and also that the hosts are on a bad streak... but Fulham have nonetheless been decent at Craven Cottage this campaign. 2-0

AI's outlook: 2-0

  • Anfield, 15:00 GMT

It is a tough one to call. Liverpool have suffered seven of their last ten matches in every tournament, but could they be one of the sides who benefit from the {international break|
