The former Liverpool manager admits coming back to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback is an option. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure which brought Champions League success and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, now holds roles as head of global soccer within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured the league title last season, though countless followers who revere Klopp would embrace the idea that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I stated I will never coach a different club within the country. Therefore should it be the Reds...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, so I could make the decision in a few years, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? In that case, I'd stay away. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I can just see what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding what circumstances would have to unfold to draw him back to management, he confessed he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for press conferences repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats a week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad enjoying conversation, that’s nice. With many victories so there was often positive atmosphere in the building. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the tweaks which secured the championship last campaign. Liverpool have lost four in a row in every contest following significant transfers, though he denied the idea it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. This is a well-built well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in during his tenure, along with the consequences on Liverpool. The Portugal international lost his life in a road accident with his brother recently.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the squad absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A profound tragedy for all the boys too. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it as an excuse though it's a fact. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Handling this on a personal level is difficult. Impossible.”
