The network's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Extension for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often characterized by cynicism, this show's sincerity found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about watching this endearing family navigate their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to evolve comedy past its long-running sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
The Path Forward
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to experience the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
